Hopping on the bandwagon, here’s my  #10yearchallenge post. Went from being a 130lbs All-Region sprinter who has never touched a barbell in his life to a 200lbs halfway-decent powerlifter who can barely run a 55m dash but can never put down the barbell 😂 Peak Performance was clearly in middle school - Many ups and just as many downs along the way. I’m not old by any means, but so much personal growth and development has happened over the years. Thankful for everything that has helped mold me into the man that I am growing into today. It’s crazy to think 10 years ago I thought my life would revolve around Track & Field. Then I discovered football and became a fat boy in hopes of playing/dressing varsity. Looking back I realize my potential was strongest in Track & Field over football, but my life would be so different than what it is today and I wouldn’t give anything that I have now for the world. I’m surrounded by absolutely amazing people at  @theshopgym who do nothing but help support my dreams and provide me with the tools to turn those dreams into a reality. Oh, and because of the shop gym I now have an amazing (and sometimes crazy) woman in my life (I love you  @thali.n.tuff 😘) - Which version of Seabass do y’all like better? 4 days out from the 2018 USAPL WI State Championships 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 4 days out from the 2019 USAPL WI State Championships. 63kg 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 72kg weight class. Water cutting for a meet that I had NO business to be water cutting for 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 no water cutting. 2200 maintenance calories 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 2800 maintenance calories. I damn near looked like a bikini competitor rather than a powerlifter. 😶 Moving up a weight class over the past year has single handedly been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It’s forced me into a different aspect of recovering from my eating disorder that I never knew was there. Some may prefer the body on the left, and to be completely honest, a lot of days I do too. BUT this year I’m OPENING with numbers that are 20-30# more than my 3rd attempts from last year. I was fighting my body for so many years, and it truly does function best here. Plus, maintaining at almost 3000 calories a day is noiiiccee. After state, I will be focusing on dialing in nutrition and composition, as training will be taking a backseat for a while. 2019 is going to bring the healthiest version of myself yet, mentally and physically. UNTIL THEN...it’s meet week. My morning workout. I have to be honest, this is not going well. I’ve taken a few practice tests and don’t feel ready to take this test, but take it I will. It took me awhile to tell myself “Autumn, it’s gonna be ok. You’ll take it, and if you have to take it again and again, that’s ok.” Anyone who knows me, knows I over think things. I will go over them and over them in my head till it hurts. When I took my  #USAPL powerlifting Cert it took me almost thirty minutes of sitting in front of my computer before I pressed the submit button. With my L1-Trainer exam I was one of the last ones to turn in my exam. I don’t remember being this anxious when I was younger, but here we are. I think it’s because this is the first time I’m doing what I feel like I was born to do. Being a coach, being someone’s cheerleader in their fitness journey. I’m happy in the gym and am trying to learn as much as I can. Ok thought over, back to studying  #CSCS  #coachlife  #studying  #powerlifting  #crossfit

On more than one occasion recently, I’ve gotten some rather condescending remarks about my body and my lifestyle. I started to feel bad about it too. Like I was doing something that was wrong because people are quick to judge. They say I’m arrogant, shallow, selfish, toxic, that I should be settling down and starting a family, that I should spend less time at the gym. They don’t see my day-to-day, my heart, my passions, failures, or hard work. - Rather than going into detail and making this a long, drawn out post. I’ll leave it at this: society says you should fit in a mold, but I’m claustrophobic. - I’m sorry that your insecurities and inability to break the mold cause you to trash me for living my life the way I see fit. But I’ll never be sorry for living my way. 💋 - - - - Side note: I’m not making this post to seek or receive validation from total strangers, or anyone else. I simply hope to encourage others to care less about what people have to say about you and just do what makes you happy.✌🏼

****Lifting Update**** A few months ago, in October, I had a minor tear in my hamstring from sprinting at a fun Ravens Military Combine event. The MRI at the time was of the knee and showed nothing. After a month I felt good enough for light lifting. Light being 225 lbs which went well on squat day. The next day I was on my 3rd set of deadlifts at 225 lbs when I felt another pop. That was the biceps femoris muscle tearing from my tendon (re-injury) but it didn't feel that bad at the time. 2 months and another MRI later I'll start physical therapy. The Ortho said I'm probably 2-3 months from lifting with weights again. What that means for powerlifting is that I'm probably not going to compete this year although I was hoping to go to Nationals in Chicago. The positive during this time has been the increase in my bench press and finally crossing the 400 lbs barrier. I enjoy lifting too much to give up. Pulled with the Rogue Cerakote power bar- THOR edition for deadlifts. Paused Deadlifts Top set: 1x3 375lbs/170.097kg Followed by 4x3 335lbs/151.95kg • Deadlifts are feeling great. I had fun with conventional, but I don’t wanna switch up too much with a meet coming up. Plus, I still like sumo more. I feel like I should have done more for my top set because it didn’t feel like an RPE9, but whatever 🤷🏾‍♂️. I was able to fit into my belt today 😂😂😂.  @huntfitness

After a 6 month slow rebuild for  @getstrong_af, he was able to compete healthy and pain free at the USPA Gateway Classic, hitting a 595lb. squat, 397lb, bench press, and 606lb. deadlift for a 1598lb. total! This helped him place 3rd overall based off Wilks at a highly competitive meet! The best part of the meet though is coming away knowing just how much more strength he has. Unfortunately a misgroove on squats ended up in Adam completely bottoming out his squat and having to hit an all out grinder at 595lbs., versus having a chance at the 617lbs. that I am very confident he had. And then an odd call on his first attempt deadlift resulted in not being able to fully display his strength on deadlifts and having to basically take his 2nd attempt as a 3rd. But the blessing in disguise is that we figured out exactly what has been causing these leg shakes that have plagued his top end strength, and as can be seen by the 606lb. deadlift, Adam has way more in him. His deadlift training had not been going that well leading into the meet, and we thought maybe at most he had 628lbs. in him, but after the "accidental" adjustment Adam made with his starting hip position on his 2nd and 3rd attempt, I honestly think he fairly easily had 650+ in him on the day. For this meet I told Adam I was not going to force progress. What I mean by that is we spent a good 6 months slowly building up his tolerance for loading and volume so that he could be training 100% pain free, and I did not want to rush that. Fortunately, it worked out that this meet lined up for exactly the time when we were going to be hitting weights in the 85-92% range again, but the downside was we had very little exposure to those intensities in comparison to what would be optimal. After this meet though, we now have the chance to take what we have built up and start training in a more normal capacity and progress from there. So I have very high hopes and expectations for what is to come by the end of 2019!
