Think power cleans and back squats are sprint specific? Think again! 🤭 As discussed in my latest YouTube video, traditional strength and power exercises fail to develop the very action which makes sprinting unique - the STRIKE💥 To sprint fast, athletes must wind up their leg into an aggressive ground strike. In contrast, traditional lifts never exhibit this very action. Furthermore, most exercises fail in that they do not require a highly rapid generation of force. With sprint stride ground contacts taking approximately 80 milliseconds to complete, a 1500 millisecond power clean is not going to be relevant when it comes to improving force production at maximal velocity. While not useless, these traditional exercises will need to be left behind when it comes time to preparing for competition. General lifts can be used in the off season, but eventually the tides must shift toward the shores of specificity. One of my favorite abdominal/ rotational/ erector exercises, the Russian Twist on the ghd. Sound on. Posterior ankle impingement is a common problem among ballet dancers. There are a few causes to it (Os Trigonum is one) In the past we’ve shown post-operative rehabilitation for this problem. In some cases, the irritation is not severe, although limiting, and can calm down with treatment (we see quite a few). One form of treatment is the mobilization shown above with a goal of unloading this injured area. In most cases this should be done by an experienced clinician but could be taught and performed by anyone. 💥Extension power and closing power⤵️  #theextra 🏋🏻‍♂️These two components of athleticism are key for sports performance, and we do tend to train them pretty often. The problem is we tend to train them individually, rarely combining the two into one movement. This is problematic because game situations often require us to use both together • 🤾🏼‍♂️Extension force tends to require explosive engagement from muscles like the glutes and spinal erectors. In this movement the primary extension muscles are the glutes, spinal erectors, and delts (to raise the ball overhead) • 💥Closing force tends to rely on the abdominals and adductors. In this movement the primary closing muscles are the abdominals, adductors, lats and triceps (to slam the ball) • 🔑 The key here is the transition between the extension muscles and closing muscles. This is the part that we often forget to train. Practicing the transition between these opposing muscle groups has a profound effect on our neuromuscular connection, in that the more we practice it, the better are mind becomes at making the transition more effective and efficient. I am big on building the supportive and connective ligaments and tendons in my athletes like @t_.t_.w through proprioceptive and balance exercises. The objective is to train the body to control the position of a deficient or an injured joint. These type of exercises strengthen the posterior chain (calves,hamstrings ,quads). Do you ever think about your finger and wrist extensors? I have to admit i didn't for a long time, untill i started doing trigger point therapy with my clients regularly. It became perfectly clear that my muscles of the palm and forearm are not exactly "fit" and I started having problems with my wrist and elbow because of the overload. So as a rehabilitation professional i started thinking of ways to correct that so I can keep doing my work. Of course, I released the tissue that was too tense and compensating for my lack of power. Then I started doing exercises for the wrist extensors (the exercises are not posted here, you can contact me for them) and finger extensors. For finger exensors i found this rubber band "thingy" that has proven to be useful. It comes in 3 strenghts. And as you can see on the picture my fingers are still a bit too weak for the middle strenght. Can't wait too see if my client did some work with the rubber thingy number one and if she has better results then me.:) So, basically I think that people who do a lot of manual work can definitely use some exercises of this type. Then we have climbers, who could benefit from this when they are warming up or just at home to strenghten the grip (of course you want to do some flexor work too!!), everyone that has a lot of flexion of the wrist and fingers going on in the day should definitely do some work for the extensors also so you balance it out. Building off a previous post about hip mobility. - This athlete is very retroverted, not a bad thing, but it has been changing the way he throws. He lacks internal rotation on both of his hips due to the way they formed when he was born. Not much he can do to improve the mobility there, though he is working on it to gain whatever he can. - He tends to be very quad dominant, not great at loading his back hip. And he tends to throw across his body. Energy being wasted or leaked in the wrong directions. - This can make your in-game delivery effective. Hide the ball, tons of arm side run, more break on your off speed. - But it isn’t the most efficient way to throw. Put more stress on the knee, lower back, decelerators of the shoulder, and potentially elbow. - Most mechanical changes are attributed to “mental focus”. You aren’t trying to step straight!! - If you are hearing the same thing over and over again from a coach, you might be asking your body to do something it isn’t PHYSICALLY” capable of. - So just a quick little experiment with adjusting his back foot position. Gave him some options to choose from and allowed him to throw. At the end, I asked which one felt the best and told him to try it out next time he throw a bullpen. - Self-discovery is a powerful tool. Paul smashing out his sessions as he closes in on the Scottish Title!! • Starting off with some power endurance, utilising an explosive broad jump to get the adaptation needed. • Pallof (strength variation) next. Not too much to say about these that I haven’t said before, apart from they are amazing! • Next some bent over rows using both supinated and pronated grips. • Paul’s already looking very strong so we will probably cut his strength phase short and move onto power early. Too many times people think that “phases” are fixed , but this isn’t the case it should be fluid and depend on the athletes progress. @paulkean

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY . DYNAMIC HAMSTRING & QUAD STRENGTH w/ VARIOUS PULLING TECHNIQUES . Want a great way to get those Hamstrings & Quads to blow up? Try these pulling techniques out! . Variation 1️⃣ uses an office chair forward-pulling technique while towing extra weight using a sled; honestly give the chair alone a try as that can be difficult for most people. However, if you’re trying to take it to the next level, hitch up some weight! Perform 2-3 sets of 15 steps per leg! Focus on a big extension each stride and full contraction/curl for maximal Hamstring activation! . Variation 2️⃣ is using a loaded sled backward-pulling technique; in this variation I’m using a rope with a neutral grip adding the FatGrips for added grip strength and forearm activation. Perform 2-3 sets of 15 steps per leg! Focus on full leg extension with each rep getting to full Terminal Knee Extension (TKE) for maximal quad activation!

With season right around the corner, I try and incorporate more drills and exercises that have a higher chance of transfer. That means replicate the demands on the field. - Single leg stability and force acceptance is extremely important for baseball players. - This drill focuses on single leg stability and the band overloads the player as they land. Similar to the momentum generated down the mound or at home plate during a swing. - It could be used for other unilateral athletes like softball, tennis, golf.
