During isolate processing there is a significant removal of fat & lactose. As a result those who are lactose-intolerant can safely take whey protein isolate. Although the concentration of protein in isolates is the highest it often contains denatured protein due to its manufacturing. These polysaccharides are stored away as “carbohydrate reserves” in plants, which makes them a source of energy. 🥔🍠 The starch content in plants changes as the plant ages. The more orderly the structure of the starch, the more resistant it is to digestion. Cooking, however, disrupts this structure, aiding in digestibility. 🥔🍠 Certain vegetables (winter squash, pumpkin, potato), grains (rice, oats, wheat, corn), and some legumes (lentils and peas), all contain higher amounts of starch compared to non-starchy vegetables (broccoli, kale, cucumber, bok choy, bell pepper, etc). 🥔🍠 While many people adopting a low-carb diet avoid starches in fear of gaining weight, there are also benefits to eating moderate amounts of starches depending on your level of activity, desire to gain weight, and/or benefits to your commensal microflora in the gut. 🥔🍠 Starch that is not easily digested is said to be “resistant.” These resistance starches help support the health and growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Today’s bicep session Today I trained biceps but didn’t focus on loading the weight up in this session. I focused on reps and really pumping them biceps with blood which is just another way of growing your muscles. . I hit barbell preacher curls 4 sets of 30 reps. . Then I moved onto incline bicep curls 4 sets of 20 each arm and supersetted these with 4 sets of dumbell hammer curls 15 each arm. Except for these one I used  @fatgripz which gives you more muscle activation. I really love these things you really feel the burn. . Then I hit bicep pull-ups 3 sets of 12 reps with standing barbell bicep curls 3 sets of 10. . Today I had an easy 4m recovery run on the plan, as it was so icy out I decided to do a trail run over some local fields were it was less slippy. I’m so glad I did as it was a glorious crisp sunny morning and relaxing easy miles were just what I needed! I followed this up with a 40min Spin session which was not so relaxing 🥵 but equally as satisfying.....and afterwards I refuelled on a yummy protein bagel! It was my first time trying these from  @warburtonsuk and it did not disappoint! Hot delicious mushroom quinoa soup. 🍲 2 tbsp olive oil 1/8 tsp red chili flake 3 medium cloves of garlic, chopped 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup) 2 large carrots, sliced (about 2 cups) 4 large stalks of celery, sliced (about 2 cups) 1, 8 oz package of sliced portobello mushrooms (about 2 cups) 1, 15 oz can lentils, drained and rinsed 1, 14/15 oz can diced tomatoes 1 cup quick cooking quinoa Handful of fresh basil, roughly torn 4, 15 oz cans (lentil can) of water Salt to taste Warm large soup pot on medium heat When pot is warm (30 - 60 seconds), add oil When oil is warm (30-60 seconds) add chili flake and garlic When garlic and chili are fragrant (about 30 seconds), add onion, celery, carrot, and mushrooms, and season lightly with salt. Stir vegetables to distribute salt. Sauté for about ten minutes until vegetables start to soften. Add tomatoes Add lentils Add water Add quinoa Stir Bring to boil and then reduce heat to simmer about 20 minutes or until vegetables are soft but not mushy. Remove soup from heat and let soup cool for about ten minutes. Then, add salt to taste, about 2 tsp. Add one tsp at a time, and then taste. It is easier to taste and not over-season if the soup is not very hot. And, you won’t burn your mouth. Sloppy Italian sausages! I used  @the_tofurky_company Italian sausages with some sautéed mushrooms and onions. If it wasn't messy it wouldn't be good 🍴 It took maybe fifteen minutes for everything start to finish, so it was a quick lunch before I had to rush out of the house. Woo!🌭 . . . . . . . .
