SET. YOUR. FEET. The foundation of your lifts are always the same. The feet. Setting your stance consistently each time you lift is of utmost importance if you plan on carrying out the lift to the best of your ability. Start by: 1) Choosing the proper footwear. Unstable shoes, or shoes that will "squish" will cause unstable form. Stick to flat footwear like Chuck's, or lift without shoes. 2) Learn to root your feet. Distribute the weight evenly over the mid foot and put pressure through the big toe, little toe, and heel. Avoid a collapsed arch. 3) Stick to your set up. With a well thought out set up that you have executed a million times, you won't need to remember to set your feet prior, it will come naturally. Have form issues that have gone undiagnosed? Not making progress when left to your own devices? Its hard to wear the lifter hat and the coach hat at the same time. Why not let someone else do that for you? Even with all my joint limitations to what I can and can’t do in the gym, I still have a love for powerlifting.⁣ ⁣ I haven’t always felt this way.⁣ ⁣ I’ve gone thru periods where it was my primary objective and I’ve gone thru periods where I put it in the back of my mind and didn’t think about it for years. Yes, years.⁣ ⁣ But my love for the sport of powerlifting began when I began pushing myself in the gym as a means to increase my muscle mass. For many years I was trying to add more muscle to my frame. I just so happened to learn more and more about progressive overload, and began using that principle to help me get stronger and bigger.⁣ ⁣ Right from the start of my lifting life, I always tried to push myself to lift a little bit more, or do an extra rep each set. Then I began systematizing it after I had got away from the program hopping issue I had as a young man.⁣ ⁣ Once I really began systematizing, and experimenting, I eventually found out about the bulgarian method. I used this on my squat for a good year +. Got way stronger. I began tinkering with how I could use it on my bench and deadlift.⁣ ⁣ That was a pretty quick lesson for me. High volume works really well on exercises that you can recover from. Deadlifts and Bench, for me don’t work for higher than 2x/week. I will begin getting joint pain for bench, and deadlifts just take a lot out of you when you’re constantly pulling 600+.⁣ ⁣ When I figured out that I could compete in a sport where the result was predicated on how much weight you can load up a bar and do it for a rep I was happy as a pig in 💩. So I signed up for my first meet and trained my ass off for it. ⁣ ⁣ My first lift, I failed my squat because I racked it before they gave me the rack command. But the rest of the meet when smooth and I was hooked from then on!⁣ ⁣ How’d you get into heavy lifting? Bit of bench from yesterday, adjusted my programme to have higher rep sets which really challenge me so I was happy with most sets. _ Elbow flare has been improving a lot lately, likely from emphasis on setup and also accessory movements/stability exercises which have helped massively. _ I’d highly recommend checking out  @athlete_movement whether looking to join or not, we have some seriously exciting stuff planned for the next few weeks/months 💪🏻

Focused on hitting depth tonight, so lots of heads cut off. It's all right. The camera angle is a bit high, but we got it. Vid. 1: An unexpected PR: 235kg went up so well before it that one of my spotters suggested I just go up to 242.5. I obliged. Vid. 1 is the result. A new squat PR with more in the tank. Hopefully at least 245 or 250 very soon. Pic. 1: 242.5kg (actually, that's a 20.4kg [45lb stiff bar], so it's 242.9kg, but we'll call it 242.5 till I hit a new PR on the comp bar). Vid. 2: Heaviest double on the SSB tonight: About 212kg-ish depending on the weight of the SSB (about 22kg or so). Pretty happy with that especially after the squat PR. Planning on hitting a 280kg deadlift next week and a new squat PR of at least 245kg next week before backing off to triples in two weeks using (hopefully) new 1RM numbers. We shall see. Quel est votre objectif ? Nous sommes tous différents. Chacun son objectif. Le chemin à parcourir, pour atteindre le sommet, est parsemé d’embûches, parfois d’un manque de motivation, de temps et d’excuses en tout genre. Ne laissez pas le rocher redescendre la montagne, vous risquez de le laissez là où il est. Mon parcours personnel a été parsemé d’obstacles qui m’ont poussés à me dépasser, à travailler, à m’investir pour être celui que je suis devenu aujourd’hui, avec toujours l’envie de grandir et de gravir de nouveaux sommets... Le chemin n’a donc pas été simple et c’est ce qui en fait sa richesse. J’ai amélioré ma persévérance. Mon état d’esprit a évolué. Mon regard sur le monde a changé. Je ne suis enrichi de ce vécu et j’ai grandi. Il y a des moments difficiles et aussi de magnifiques victoires qu’il faut savoir fêter pour prendre conscience du chemin parcouru !
