So I’ve taken a bit of a break from Instagram. I needed to clear my head and I needed to be clear of all distractions. I couldn’t deal with what was going on inside my head. I knew that I couldn’t help anyone else around me if I couldn’t even help myself. I felt so lost and I felt so depleted. I felt like I was broken but I didn’t know where I was broken. I had no idea where to start to put myself back together. I didn’t even understand what was going on. I thought that I had all these tools and strategies to help me get through the Christmas period but clearly the strategies just didn’t work this time. I’ve now realised that not all strategies work for every occasion because there’s so many different factors influencing the outcome. ⠀ In December I was feeling really depleted. I was slowly disintegrating and every single day I was fighting and fighting and fighting to be the person that I was only a month earlier. But each day I was breaking more and more and I felt myself getting into a bad place. I wasn’t happy with myself or who I was. I didn’t like the way I thought or things I was saying. I hated looking at myself in the mirror. I was unhappy with so many different things and I was hurt by so many different things or people. I couldn’t switch my emotions. I was so stuck. It was like I had opened a hole in my aura for negativity to latch on to. ⠀ I knew things were getting bad because I wasn’t just getting upset just once a week or every now and then. I was now crying everyday. Either while I was driving to and from places or while I was trying to get to sleep, or even when I woke up. everything was just going over and over and over again in my head. I was seeing my psychologist still and I was breaking down in sessions more and more. I had a plan in place for Christmas but the plan just didn’t work. I was too overwhelmed. I just couldn’t handle it. I was so worried about being a burden to other people I isolated myself which I know is the worst thing to do and my biggest fault. *continues in comments*

That was the idea behind the workout today, and boy did I get it right lol. I tell my clients a lot that many times you have to really force your thoughts and emotions aside to break down obstacles and push past self created limitations..you can't think and focus on the pain or the fact your body may be tired, because then it only heightens your awareness, and in fact you will feel it and it's effects more.  #MotivationMonday just so happens to fall on 19 months out from surgery. So I figured why not do a fun little side by side because I’m sure you’re not tired of them yet. I’m not though. Went to the gym today and destroyed core with supersets, crushed chest, killed biceps and shoulders before going in on some cardio. Not the fastest but knocked out a 5K in 32:57, not terrible. But the whole time I was at the gym, I couldn’t believe the reflection looking back at. I say that a lot because it’s still surreal to me. I saw this big, beefy, jacked diesel looking back at me. Not in perfect shape but far more swole than I was even just a few months ago. It’s amazing how much the body can transform if you’re willing to put in the work. If you’re looking for motivation, let this be it. Don’t need surgery like me. I’ve lost 30, 40, 50 and even as much as 60 lbs most recently and gained it all back. It never stuck. Don’t get to that point. Just start moving. 15/20/30 minutes a day. Whatever you can do. Look up YouTube workout videos if you don’t feel comfortable going to the gym. Or if it’s too cold outside where you live. Start there. Just move. You can work on changing your diet after that but just moving can change everything. Just remember...one, step, one rep, one day at a time. July 2017 (one month post op) versus today for the first three. June 12, 2018 (  #BrotheredOutSelfiesChallenge) versus today in the fourth picture and the last one is just progress today. We’re all capable of change. It’s not a matter of motivation. Happy Monday and MLK day! ✨ My boyfriend had the day off, so we got to spend some extra time with each other today. Yay! 💕 He went to the gym with me today and wanted to lift some weights, which means today I’ll be sharing a gym machine/free weight workout instead of a circuit workout. I repeated some of the exercises from last week and added in some other ones. Don’t worry though because i’ll be sharing a circuit workout tomorrow! 💪🏽 We focused on upper body today. My upper body is totally dead! I already feel sore, so I can just imagine how I’m going to feel tomorrow. I wish I could have recorded my entire workout, but there were so many people today since many people had MLK day off! I was only able to get a video of the reverse fly because people started leaving around that time. Also, I’ve been CRAVING some balsamic braised short ribs (recipe on the blog) and Sprouts finally had good short ribs in stock this week! 🙌🏽 If you want to see how I make my short ribs, head on over to my IG stories! 💕 . 10 minute cardio warm-up . So... I always second and triple guess myself when I post progress pics... why?! Because like most women, I’m insecure about certain aspects of my body and the way I’ll be perceived. One of my biggest worries is if a picture is too provocative or revealing. If we are being honest the fitness industry has become borderline porn in recent years. 🤷‍♀️ But today I want to post these because I am STOKED! Just yesterday I was told by numerous people how small and skinny I was. If you know anything about me you know that is one of my worst fears!!! But instead of beating myself up too bad and falling back into depression I used it as motivation. Today I feel and look great in my eyes! 😍This progress took HARD WORK! So if this post inspires just one person to get off the couch and start moving the risk was worth it. No gym no problem! Do not knock a home workout if you’ve never tried one! The difference between last year and this year is that i was just starting out! I wasn’t “motivated “ i danm sure didn’t have the discipline to get up and put work in no matter what! Today was pretty much a day off for health wise. It’s below 10 degrees outside and yea I wasn’t risking health for money 🤷🏾‍♀️. I felt lazy just laying down scrolling through social media. I’ve probably spent 3hrs on my phone before i got up for a home workout in. We all start somewhere and I remember saying home works don’t work. I didn’t kill myself,but i wanted to make sure i was burning a significant amount of calories. Grumpy mood this afternoon. Not sure why. Tried to get myself out of the funk by a crushing leg day. . Usually I am one workout away from a good mood. I'm not sure if it worked or not yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to walk with my Bambi shaking legs. . I love having so many options available to me for a great workout. It was between legs of Plyo/HIIT tonight. I have over 600 to choose from. Sometimes I do a Russian Rouette style and blindly choose for fun. This mornings low impact circuit ☺️ Warmed up with a walk, then... 3x through a 7 minute circuit without break. 40 sec work : 20 sec rest Step up R Step up L Squat 4kg Push up Supermans TRICEP dips Alternate overhead press Repeat!!! Now I've never really done hip thrusters in any capacity before, but the gym got this new machine, so I said to myself "New year, new me! Try new things, etc etc etc!". So here we are, thrusting hips. Now I can say I've expanded my workout repertoire to 4 exercises. And people say I'm not open minded. Anyways, got about 380 on the bar (machine?) and pondering throwing at least another couple plates on until I read the disclaimer that says this thing has a 360lbs weight limit. My brain has trouble processing this because a) I'm slow and b) there is still plenty of room for more plates. Why have more room for plates if I'm not allowed to add more plates I wonder. Another one of life's great mysteries....

It’s a great sign that you’ve worked hard and pushed your body to its peak. Sweating is undoubtedly a good sign; it helps to rid your body of toxins and regulates your body temperature to stop overheating. . But while sweating is great, it’s important that we remain hygienic during our workouts and considerate of fellow users.This is where a gym towel comes in handy. . It doesn’t bear thinking about the number of people who have used the treadmill, rowing machine, any kind of machine or bench before you. The gym is a communal environment and it’s therefore important to keep hygiene at the forefront of your mind. Carrying a gym towel and bringing it to each workout session gives that extra bit of cleanliness and means you can wipe down the machines for the next user. . Today was a big win for me. I did my first actual metcon since I have been back to the gym. 21-15-9, step ups, med ball thrusters, KB swings. It was tough. Like SO tough, and no one there knew what programing I had written down so I could have quit, but I didn’t.
