I read something this morning that damn near jumped off the page and slapped me in the face. 😯 . “God did not create us to be average. We were created to excel. You were not created to just get by with an average, unrewarding, or unfulfilling life. God created you to leave your mark on this generation.” . I’ve been speaking about not settling for average so much recently, I believe the universe supplying me with this message today was truly in divine order.  #LOA . Monday HIIT! 💥 . Here’s how to incorporate these fun moves: . ➡️ If you’re more of a beginner, start a stopwatch and choose one move to do for the first 20 seconds of the first minute. Rest for the remaining 40 seconds, then do the same thing for each subsequent minute with a different move each time. . ➡️ If you’re a bit more advanced, use these moves as an “active rest” in between your weighted exercises. ***NEW ARTICLE*** The 10 Best Landmine Exercises You’ve Never Done!!! (see link in bio) Looking for a shoulder press variation that’s not only very joint friendly but also crushes the deltoids & upper body through a biomechanically efficient & natural movement path? Try this converging overhead landmine press that I’m demonstrating from a kneeling position. When you examine the overhead press one could make an argument that the most natural path is to have a wider hand position in the bottom & a closer hand position in the top. In other words the hand would be more lateral to the body in the stretched position & more medial toward the midline of the body in the top contracted position (i.e. converging path). This is simply indicative of the natural scapulohumeral rhythm that occurs in the glenohumeral joint during most pressing motions. Unfortunately it can be a bit tricky to replicate this motion with free weights although dumbbells & kettlebells do provide a moderate amount of freedom to slightly simulate this motion. However, this kneeling landmine press truly mimics the natural motion of the shoulder joint during an overhead press as it diverges (spreads away from the body) during the eccentric bottom position while converging (moving toward the midline) during the concentric top phase. Ironically many variable resistance machine companies have attempted over the years to replicate these biomechanics on their equipment, however they typically feel semi-unnatural & awkward. This landmine variation on the other hand feels incredibly natural. As a bonus there’s some serious anteroposterior instability due to the rotational nature of the landmine station. If you press too far in back or in front of the body you’ll find it difficult to maintain balance. POST 2 on weight loss and fat loss. The training I do, which is an important part of the solution (but only a part) is a collection of complex movements like the backward sled drag with very short rest periods between. What I DON’T do is cardio for fat loss. . . CONTEXT: exercise is important, but rest of the job of losing weight and/or fat resides in all of the additional hours of your day and night. Genetically-speaking, I’m pre-disposed to being overweight. As such, I need to put a lot of care into NOT gaining the wrong kind of weight, as do most of you. Further, my job is highly sedentary (sitting or standing at a desk for hours at a time). My workouts—especially the winter months—are the only times I actually move, other than walking to and from my car. That factor 50 life is doing wonders for my sun kissed face - I think I’m actually paler than when I lived in the U.K. 🤷🏻‍♀️ . Working through a shoulder niggle at the moment so trying to nip it in the bud/not make it hang about by being honest with myself in class and the gym about the weight I should use and the exercises I should risk doing, along with extra mobility and stretching work every day, making sure my diet is full of nutrients and protein to aid recovery from sessions, it seems to be doing ok and hurting less each day. . I’ve learned the hard way in the past that pushing and pushing won’t get you anywhere with an injury - unless you’re pushing a sled, it’s v important to push the sled k. Exercise of the week: t’s hard to argue with anyone who says the best compound leg exercise is the squat, which works your quads, glutes and hamstrings in on go- But that’s not to say there aren’t highly effective alternatives, and one of those is the split squat. The split squat stimulates the same leg muscles as the squat, but the single-leg alternative places a significant amount of tension on your abs muscles with the added benefit of boosting your overall functional strength. From a standing position, take a long step forwards as if performing a lunge. The heel of your back foot should be raised. Keeping your torso straight, lower slowly until your back knee almost touches the floor, then push back up. Complete all your reps on one leg, then switch to the other. Keep your knees in line with your toes, especially on the front leg, and don’t let the front knee stray past your foot as you lower. It’s great to change up your training so give it a go! MASHED POTATO - This is my absolute fave recipe. I grew up on meat and potatoes but have stayed away from mashed potatoes for a long time. Recently I discovered a lower calorie potato which can be purchased in both Woolies and Coles (annoyingly in a plastic packet but that's for another post) which I mix half and half with pureed cauliflower.  I add herbs or lots of salt and pepper to flavour. This batch serves two of us for a week. Its so good!

LOVE adding in some lunges & standing balance/ stability work at the start and finish of a Pilates mat workout. Lunges done well help to strengthen the glutes, hips, deep core & all of the muscles around the knees & ankles. Balance work also requires complete concentration in order to keep aware of alignment, posture & balance. If you sit at a desk a lot or get issues with your hips, lunges can be a great way to realign & rebalance the body when performed slowly with control! @ tatumsavage doing a fab job in her 1:1 home sesh the other day!! ⚡️⚡️  #pilatesthatcomestoyou  #matworkouts  #functionaltraining
