Another day back at it ! I love the track so much. Getting back into the speedy stuff after some time off is a little challenging, but I'm doing just fine ! Workout tonight - 15 minute warm up》1200m》2min rest》800m》2min rest》400m》1min rest》400m》1min rest》200m》15 minute cool down. 5.3 miles total for the day - - - Great workout and my brother  @robbiederschang gave me some company. I haven't lost much speed over the last few months which is really exciting. I've only been running 20-30 miles a week for several weeks and I'm still able to hit the paces I was running when I thought I was in the best shape of my life. This is really exciting to me. I am capable of a lot more and I'm going to get stronger and even faster soon.  #keepshowingup

Spin classes are now officially my FAVORITE workout, besides from running of course 🚴🏼‍♀️ You know I think would just be the COOLEST thing? A spin class but for treadmills and running! Imagine the kind of run and workout that would be!! 💦😳 I never thought I would like it because of how much I dislike riding real bike and even bikes at the gym BUT it is totally different and way for fun! I’ve been going every Tuesday night to the same instructor and she is seriously just the best!! Spinning gives my body a nice break from running and the stress it can put on my knees, hips, and really my whole body; spin KICKS MY BUTT!! 2018 in one word? Transformative. . In some ways, it’s pretty obvious. We had another baby, moved across the country, started grad school. . But there are a few more transformations that are not so obvious. We took some big leaps of faith this year — from choosing to try for a second baby while in company command in an Infantry Brigade (technically a 2017 decision, but it really came into effect in 2018) to saying, “Yes” to Harvard even though, initially, it meant we’d have to separate our family on the back end. I took a leap in March, 7 months pregnant and solo parenting, when I drove to St Louis to get  @rrcanational certified. Because who doesn’t want to start a small coaching business when you’ve got all that life going on? . In the chaos of all the life, I started saying no. No to the “extra” things that made for extra stress. No to comparisons. No to crazy self-imposed pressure. No to social invitations and work events that weren’t going to make me happy. . And you know what? Cutting all that “extra” stuff made room for the big things. For my preemie baby to slip into our family both wildly and seamlessly. For connecting with some amazing women and helping them chase their own running goals. For my first semester coding and crunching data to close out successfully (🤞🏼). For me to get back into shape and snag a PR at 6 months postpartum. For us to work with the Army, so we could keep our family together a little longer. And it all makes me so dang happy and fulfilled. . What is 2019 going to bring? Hopefully a little less action 😂 As great as this year was, it was exhausting! So here’s to a 2019 where we keep getting better. Cuz the truth is, I’m still a work in progress. But I really, really like where I’m going. . What’s your word to describe 2018? And how do you plan to keep it up as we move into 2019?

You may see struggle, but you will never see me squit 💩. . . Well, today you MIGHT have done because my body woke up this morning and decided to operate on a quicker shutter speed than usual. 🙈 I started off alright, told my self that as long as I didn’t trust any farts I’d be ok, but at 3K I made a huge mistake by telling my self to “relax”. . . Uh oh. The fatal error. . . For the next 2k I was chutney clutching like you wouldn’t believe and ended up negative splitting the run all the way to the finish line, coming in 6th overall and First Lady. It’s definitely not my preferred modus operandi for doing Park Run but sometimes you’ve just gotta take the rough with the smooth, work with what you’ve got on the day and get by with a bit determination and a lot of prayer! 🙏🏼 So the score currently stands at me = 1 and shits = 0 💪🏼 . . 🤘  #TransformationTuesday 🤘 Here goes another before and after for Transformation Tuesday. This past April, while attending a cousin's wedding in South Carolina, I ran a 5K in the morning. I took 2nd place in my age group and that was not the best part. I crush, straight up crushed my 5K PR by 3.5 minutes. I never Invisioned I would be sub 25 minutes, I went 23 and a half. You can do anything you set out to do and I'm living proof. Just remember to keep moving the goal line and you will always be hungering for more!

Interval training today. Without a training plan I usually just jog for a bit without a real plan or goal. This phone comes with a step counter (tracking my daily 10,000 steps) and also has training plans. I picked a 4 week 5k program complete with long runs, short runs and intervals. Couldn't think of what picture to post but I wanted to share this achievement so here's the view from my backyard. For the past 2 weeks or so I've been attempting to complete my first 5km run. I was hoping to achieve it over the long weekend, but instead had two of the shittiest runs I've had in awhile (had to stop after like 2km). I decided to give it another crack today, and smashed that goal with 6.09km! I felt great afterwards and like I could have kept running. *Brag Alert* Y'all!! If you haven't seen our video of 19 Things We Want To Do in 2019 | Relationship Goals video (swipe to see thumbnail photo), you definitely need to! One of Blair's goals for 2019 is to do a 5k.. with ME! I was completely shocked when he said that, and had never even considered it. For many people this wouldn't be a big deal, but I didn't think that there was any way that I could physically do it. Well, I got on my treadmill yesterday to release some crazy stress, and ended up walking/jogging 3.32 MILES on an incline!! I thought that a 5k was 3.3miles, so that was my goal, but it's actually 3.1miles! I am SO proud of myself, and so excited!! I've never enjoyed any kind of cardio, but I LOVED every second of it!! Same photo taken 13 days apart and 3 minutes and 36 seconds difference. I may not be back to my old pace yet but I’m improving. I credit my cross training at home workouts for the improvement - it definitely helps!! PS - I need new running shoes, think that will be a present to myself with the next time improvement 👍🏻

*loonng motivational post about to go down* ❣️ Sometimes the lyrics to a  #motivationalsong don’t matter, it’s more of the title & music that keeps you going. . *Someone told me they can’t run because the treadmill hurts their legs. 😐 Now I’m not a running coach, nor do I know a ton about running. I do however have a great mentor who is a multi-marathon finisher, an old cross country coach, & my dad. So that helps in the knowledge department. *Here’s what I learned: running is always going to hurt somewhere when you start out. Your feet, ankles, knees, legs, hips, back, stomach, arms, chest, throat, & •mind• are all going to hurt. (At some point during training.) You have to condition those parts of you. If it doesn’t stop, you have to make sure you’re running in the correct shoes. Bad support = pain. *You also may be running too much at first. You have to gradually increase yourself. You cannot jump into running expecting to pull out a 5k. Do a 1/2 a mile. Then do 3/4 of a mile. Then push for 1 mi. Try to get a faster 1 mi then slow back down & push to 1.5 mi. Keep at that then go for 2 mi. If you can run 2 mi, you can run 3 mi. A 5k is 3.1 miles... so if you can run the 2 mi, you can finish a 5k. Running is mental too. It’s hard for me mentally sometimes. I get bored. Or I psych myself out thinking my 3 miles is going to take me at most 30 minutes. I do too much mental math. Or I’m just not into it. Today’s run, I was not in the right state of mind at the beginning. I had no motivation. But I made myself do it. It cleared my mind & I ended up running one of my best 5k’s. I always say “The day you just don’t feel like it is the day you need it most.” And yes, I just quoted myself. It’s a great quote. 😂 Everybody has to start somewhere. And it’s probably going to hurt, but as long as you keep pushing & pushing, you will end up surprising yourself. I know I have. Annnd scene. 😸🧘🏻‍♀️

13:32 min mile today. Not my best but not my worst, even though it certainly felt like my worst. 4 hours sleep, 8 hour shift, then going to the gym...my body was not ready. And it’s frustrating because I see and read all the inspirational stories of peoples journeys and pushing through it and going to the gym, they all seem so successful and that the bad days aren’t that bad. That the days you know you can do a pull up but can’t do a pull up because your arms are shaking before you’ve even started, even though you ate right and slept okay, your body still fights. And you have a day where you feel like you left yourself down. Did you improve? Well you thought you were improving so why did today feel like a step back? And you rarely hear people talk about it like so. It’s usually “oh there were bad days, but you just have to push through!” That doesn’t prepare anyone for this journey ahead. I’m so lucky to have the support system that I do that was honest about what their bad days at the gym were like, and that sometimes you’re just going to suck and you won’t know why and all you can do is try again. Which is a mentality I normally associate with sports, not recreational working out to better myself. I’m glad I got my workout in, I’m glad I didn’t quit, but this journey is long and frustrating and I just hope I can get through the next challenge the same way I got through this one.  #gettingthere  #5ktraining  #harddayatthegym  #hardday  #challenge  #workingthroughit #gym

Not all runs go as planned. I had set out to do six miles on the treadmill with 7 speed intervals. I got done my warm up and the 6th interval and had to quit. It was hard to breath and I couldn't run, even at a slow pace. I got through 70% of my workout but it's still discouraging to have to stop. Another day, another workout. I’ve decided to start training for another 5K. Before I had kids I ran ONE 5K. I was EXTREMELY proud of myself because I survived. Yes, SURVIVED. But, to be frank... I HATED EVERY SECOND OF IT! It was miserable, exhausting and nauseating. I remember crossing the finish line, and thinking to myself, “thank God that’s over, and I will NEVER do that again.”I couldn’t breathe, I hurt, but most of all... disappointed. Now I know, you’re thinking, “why would you be disappointed when you JUST RAN A 5K!?” To be honest; I was disappointed that I hated it that much. I wanted so bad to enjoy it like my friends. They made it look so easy; like they could run all day. Lord knows they can, and dang do they make me proud. But, not gonna lie, a little envious. lol. So now my goal isn’t just to FINISH a 5K... it’s to work hard to finally enjoy it, heck even just not hate it. Such a beautiful and peaceful run on this chilly evening! Perfect way to bookend the day!
